Frank Leeb is a respected fire service leader, educator, and author with more than 31 years of experience in the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). As a Deputy Assistant Chief, he has held several senior leadership roles, including Chief of the Fire Academy, Chief of Training, and Chief of Safety, shaping the future of firefighter preparedness and operational excellence.
Now serving as the managing director of the First Responder Center for Excellence (FRCE), he continues to drive initiatives that enhance firefighter health, safety, and leadership development.
A sought-after speaker, Frank has lectured nationally and internationally on motivation, preparedness, leadership, and firefighting tactics. He holds a bachelor’s degree in fire service administration and a master’s in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School.
An advocate for continuous learning, he has contributed to firefighter safety research and served as a keynote speaker at major industry events. Dr. Sara Jahnke is a leading authority on firefighter health, with more than a decade of experience conducting groundbreaking research on the well-being of fire service professionals. As Senior Principal Investigator at NDRI-USA, Inc. and Director of the Center for Fire, Rescue & EMS Health Research, she has led more than a dozen national studies exploring critical issues such as cancer, cardiovascular risk, behavioral health, and injury prevention among firefighters.
A fellow with the American College of Epidemiology, Dr. Jahnke has received numerous accolades, including the IAFC President’s Award for Excellence in Fire Service Research and the John Granito Award for Excellence in Firefighter Research. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and serves on multiple boards, including the NFPA Research Foundation and the Missouri Cancer Trust.

Kimberly Cox

Kimberly Cox is a retired fire captain, leader, and advocate dedicated to advancing the fire service and supporting firefighter development. With 22 years of service in the Eden Prairie Fire Department in Minnesota, she built a career rooted in operational excellence, leadership, and mentorship. She earned certifications as an EMT, HazMat technician, apparatus operator, and Blue Card hazard zone manager.
Beyond her fire service career, Kimberly has been a driving force in promoting diversity and inclusion within the profession. As a founding member and President of the North Star Women’s Firefighter Association, she has worked since 2006 to elevate and support women in the fire service. Her contributions were recognized in 2007 when she was awarded the Eden Prairie Athena Award for her impact in fostering opportunities for women in firefighting.
Kimberly holds an AAS in fire science and a bachelor’s degree in fire science administration from Waldorf University. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership for public administration.

Jonathan Tate is a D.C. firefighter and the founder of Food on the Stove, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving firefighter health through nutrition and fitness. Understanding firsthand the toll that the fire service can take on the body, Jonathan created Food on the Stove to address one of the leading causes of firefighter fatalities — heart disease. His organization provides firefighters with the tools, education, and resources needed to make healthier choices while on and off duty.

Dr. Brittany Hollerbach is a dedicated researcher and former firefighter committed to advancing health and wellness in the fire service. As associate scientist and deputy director of the Center for Fire, Rescue & EMS Health Research at NDRI-USA, Inc., she leads studies focused on firefighter well-being, cardiovascular health, and military PTSD. With a PhD in kinesiology from Kansas State University and a post-doctoral fellowship in cardiovascular physiology at Skidmore College, she brings a strong scientific foundation to her work.
Brittany has been deeply engaged in firefighter health research since graduate school, with a particular focus on the unique challenges faced by female firefighters. Dr. Derrick Edwards is a Tennessee licensed professional counselor and mental health advocate dedicated to supporting first responders. With two decades in the fire service and a background as an advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT), he brings a unique perspective to his work in firefighter mental health.
As an assistant professor of psychology at Tennessee Tech University (TTU), he leads the TTU Responder Health Lab, where his research focuses on the psychological impact of emergency response careers.
Holding a master’s degree from TTU and a doctorate from Trevecca Nazarene University, Dr. Edwards is committed to bridging the gap between mental health care and the emergency services community.
