I’ve been thinking a lot about how much can change in a single day. We underestimate it all the time. Today you can be lost in a big decision that feels impossible, and tomorrow the answer shows up like it was waiting there the whole time. Today you might feel disconnected, uncertain, or off your game — and tomorrow you remember exactly why you started. It never stops amazing me how much can shift in 24 hours. Especially in this job. The difference a day makes is everything.
As CRACKYL continues to grow and my career evolves, I’ve started paying closer attention to those in-between moments — the space between “I’ll never figure this out” and “there it is.” There’s a fine line between the two, and it’s usually where the most growth happens. I’ve learned not everything that breaks is meant to be fixed. Sometimes it’s meant to be rebuilt differently — or left behind entirely so something better can take shape. The uncertainty that lives between today and the version of you tomorrow is uncomfortable as hell. But it’s also where you find out who you really are.
The Power of the In-Between
Lately, I’ve been talking with firefighters who are right in the middle of that space — dealing with investigations, discipline, setbacks. We don’t do well with that kind of loss of control. We’re wired to win, to fix, to push through. So when something knocks us off our feet — when progress turns into punishment, or when we feel misunderstood — it rattles everything. One day you’re convinced you’re unstoppable, and the next you’re questioning your purpose. Watching others walk that road makes me think hard about how I’d handle it myself — and honestly, it’s a scary thought. Because I know it would rock me, too. That’s not weakness. That’s identity colliding with expectation.
Most of us were built for action, not aftermath. We know how to move, not how to pause. We know how to perform, but not how to process.
When Control Slips Away
When that rhythm of control disappears, our minds go searching for something to blame — and usually, we turn it inward. We replay every word, every decision, trying to rewrite the past like we can somehow edit the pain away. But life doesn’t work that way. Sometimes what hurts you isn’t really about you at all. It’s about someone else’s fear, someone else’s failure, or a system that still hasn’t learned how to take care of its own.
Even so, there’s something powerful happening in the middle of all this mess. I see firefighters starting to talk. I see people being more honest — not to seek pity, but to find connection. I see vulnerability starting to look less like weakness and more like a lifeline. That’s how we rebuild — through the raw, unfiltered conversations that remind us we’re people first, firefighters second.
Tomorrow Still Exists
For anyone reading this who’s in that hard stretch — if today feels unbearable or uncertain — remember that tomorrow still exists. It might not be easier, but it will be different. You might not have your answers yet, but they’re coming. The difference between today and tomorrow could be one conversation, one moment of honesty, one decision to keep showing up.
What a difference a day makes. It’s not just a saying — it’s hope. It’s the reminder that what you predict isn’t always what will be. It leaves space for possibility, for growth to take root where you least expect it. One day can undo you, or it can redefine you. But if you stay curious — if you keep your heart and your head in the game — it can break you open in ways that build you stronger.
The truth is, everything can change overnight — your direction, your purpose, your understanding of yourself. Sometimes, the only difference is time. And sometimes, that’s all you need — just more time.
